Wall of containers blocking residents' view will be removed next month

15:36 12/01/2025

A huge stack of containers that has been obstructing the view and blocking out sunlight for residents of Rue Jules Bouillon in Ixelles for more than a month will finally be moved in February, according to Nevruz Unal (PS), alderman for urban planning in Ixelles.

Residents have been complaining about the containers since early December, noting that because the containers are inhabited, their proximity to the windows and balconies of surrounding apartment buildings is a major privacy concern.

Residents had previously been told that the containers would remain there for three years as a result of the construction works that the temporary buildings are associated with.

After public complaints, it was found that the installation of the containers did not meet the conditions approved by the municipality, both in terms of height and clearance on the public road. But weeks later, they have yet to be moved.

“I hope they will be moved soon,” one resident told Bruzz.

“I contact the municipality every week, but there is still no clarity. They say getting permits [to move them to another site] takes time, but it's taking a long time now. It's getting harder and harder to keep this up.”

The resident did note that complaints about the rubbish piling up around the containers were addressed.

Alderman Unal now insists the containers will be moved in February.

“We’re closely monitoring the situation,” Unal added.
