Guinguette season: Five outdoor cafes already open in Brussels

12:30 02/05/2025

While Brussels folk wait for the six park guinguettes to open for business, here’s five outdoor cafes in the capital that are already making the most of the spring sunshine, reports SoSoir.

Grand Hospice Jardin

This is one of the most secluded spots in the city centre that transforms into a magical setting when darkness descends. Hidden behind the walls of the former Hospice Pacheco convent, the garden (pictured, main image) is a welcome refuge from the hustle and bustle of urban life. Fairy lights are festooned above the bar and deckchair lounge area, while a Saturday evening musical programme launches shortly. Visitors can also partake in a game of pétanque. Mon to Wed & Fri from 14.00, Thurs & Sat from 12.00, Rue du Grand Hospice 7

Le Flore

Located in Bois de la Cambre, this guinguette is a perfect place for sitting back, sipping a refreshment in the shade and lapping up the atmosphere. Crowds head here for the hip terrace, resident DJs and after-work drinks, set in the middle of the city’s woodlands. It also boasts an elegant restaurant and evening barbecues every Friday. Thurs from 12.00 to midnight, Fri from 19.00 to midnight, Sat & Sun from 12.00 to 19.00, Avenue de Flore 3

Woodpecker Wolvendael

A popular family spot with a relaxed atmosphere and friendly service, the Woodpecker has reopened in the lovely Uccle park. Sit back in a deckchair and take your pick from a selection of fresh juices, iced teas and home-made sandwiches and cakes, while keeping a watchful eye on the kids’  scrambling around the neighbouring playground. The vibe changes every Thursday evening during May and June when DJ sets pull in the crowds. Mon & Tues from 15.00-20.00, Wed to Fri from 13.00-21.00, St & Sun from 12.00 to 21.00, Avenue Wolvendael 44  (Uccle)

Smala Farming

Smala

This urban farm is a hybrid space that offers a seasonal festive terrace during the spring and summer months. The open-air cafe is perfect for a drink or organic and veggie-friendly bites and meals. It attracts a diverse crowd that is eager to support a socially responsible and environmentally-friendly outlet in the city. Sat from 12.00 to 15.00, Rue de Neerpede (Anderlecht)

Guinguette Astrid

Asrtrid

Discreetly located in Astrid Park, a stone's throw from the RSCA football stadium, Café du Parc Astrid cultivates a family-friendly and charming and unpretentious atmosphere. People flock here for its tranquil setting and warm welcome, and when the sun shines, the well-appointed terrace. Its menu favours local and low-waste produce and a pétanque court and volleyball net are additional attractions. More info on its Facebook page. Wed to Sun 11.00 to 20.00, Astrid Park (entrance to Square Egide Rombaux) (Anderlecht)
