New VRT building to cost €105 million
Flemish Radio- and Television Network Organisation (VRT) has a budget of €105 million for a new building on its Reyer campus. That is according to De Morgen based on a call for designers for the new project launched by the Flemish Government.
The building should be "full of energy, a place that stimulates creativity," says the open call. The new site should be radically different from the current one. Instead of long corridors and barricades, it will be one large open space of 55,000 square meters.
The VRT does not receive any money from the government to finance the project, but will instead rely in part on the sale of land at the site. That will free up room for other media companies and start-ups, as well as housing and a public park.
Designers now have the opportunity to work out the concept for the new building. The winning proposal will be chosen by April 1, 2015. The new media complex should be in place by the summer of 2019.
