Celebrating women in cinema: First Brussels edition of I Am Tomorrow Film Festival

Founded in 2017, the I Am Tomorrow Film Festival opens for the first time in Brussels on 23 and 24 November.

The festival is an opportunity to see inspiring films directed by women from all corners of the world. It also serves as an important network platform for filmmakers and technicians.

At the heart of the event is the aim to give a voice to “female filmmakers who have a story that needs to be told, a message that needs to be heard, or a perspective that needs to be seen,” explains founder Kiran Maverick. 

Jury members for the Brussels edition include prominent actors Madalena Brandao (Portugal) and Azmeri Haque Badhon (Bangladesh), plus notable Belgian director Ilinca Neagu and other creative professionals from European and world cinema.

On the programme are 34 short, documentary and feature films. They were carefully selected from a total of 82 submissions, originating from 32 countries.

The festival opens on Thursday with the short film On my father's grave by Jawahine Zentar (Fr 2021). Evening screenings include the documentary Trapped by Plastic by Brussels-based British director Anny Tubbs (UK, 2022) and feature film The Gift by Dalmira Tilepbergenova (Kyrgyz 2023).

Screenings on 23 November are at Cinema Galeries (14.00-20.00) and 24 November at Silver Square Bailli (10.00-18.00). All films have English subtitles.

After previous editions in other European cities, Maverick now plans to base the festival in the Belgian capital.
