Brussels Justice Palace renovation to start in 2018
Renovation of the façade of the Brussels Palace of Justice is scheduled to start in 2018 and take 2.5 years to complete, according to the Belgian Buildings Agency (BBA). Within 10 to 12 years, all sides of the building will have to be renovated, followed by the massive copper dome.
Last week, the Justice Palace was included in the World Monuments Fund list of the world's 50 most endangered sites. But the building has not been neglected, argues the BBA. "All of the flat roofs have been redone and we're now preparing the global study for the renovation,” Johan Vanderborght of the BBA told brusselnieuws.be. “The file still needs to be approved by the finance ministry and the monuments and sites directorate. In the first phase, we will renovate the façades, and later the base of the dome.”
