Brussels terraces under extra security
The Belgian security services have received indications about a possible terror attack in Brussels during Ramadan, the Muslim fasting period which began last week and runs until 5 July. Police officers and soldiers will therefore provide extra surveillance for the city's café terraces and hospitals in the coming weeks, write Het Laatste Nieuws and De Morgen.
The police and military are currently deployed across the capital to provide extra security on café terraces, which attract more people than usual during the European Championship, and in the vicinity of schools and hospitals, all of which could be potential targets of a new attack, according to the latest information from the security services.
Despite the new information, the threat level will not be increased from 3 to 4, as the highest level is reserved for a terror threat that comes with a specific time and location for an attack.
